The impact of sex upon our culture is immeasurable. However, the influence can be calculated as we look at an unprecedented increase in the number of teen aged pregnancies, an out of control epidemic of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and an ever-growing divorce rate; inside and outside of the Church. Sex is used to sell everything from soap to power tools. It is readily apparent in all facets of society here and abroad.

The sexual overtones and innuendos have spread from only being on the cable television stations. They have found a home on network TV, and have moved from night time soaps to prime time family programming. This perverted seducing spirit has fully infiltrated every aspect of the entertainment industry. It is found running rampant in music, film, theatre, TV, literature, music videos, and the Internet. To say that it is out of control is truly an understatement.

So when it comes to pornography (pictures, writings, or films designed to arouse sexual excitement), what does it matter if it is hard or soft? The anticipated product is the same; sexual arousal. Lust results when our sexual desires are aroused towards someone other than our marital partner. If we yield to lust, fornication or adultery will be the outcome. Soft porn, hard porn, the result is the same. It distracts our sexual attention away from our covenant relationship with our mate, and displaces it on someone outside of our marriage. Jesus said if we look on a woman to lust after her, we have already committed adultery in our heart.

Soft or hard porn is just the devil’s deceptive attempt to cause man to think that his sin of lust can be measured in degrees of severity. It is also man’s attempt to classify himself as not being “that bad”, because he doesn’t ingest hard pornography. When something is intentionally designed to focus our sexual desires on someone other than our own mate, it doesn’t matter whether it is semi-clad, or fully naked! The results are the same, and will ultimate cause problems in our marital relationship.
