GospelCity.com's Richard Cox Speaks In-depth with EMI Sweetheart Anita Wilson
Gospelcity interviewed EMI Gospel’s new artist Anita Wilson about her debut project “Wonderful Soul.”
Gospelcity: Anita, thanks for taking the time to interview with me.
Anita Wilson: For sure. Thanks!
GC: Since you’re a new gospel artist, tell me about your gospel music background.
AW: Well the predictable history is there because I was a church daughter all of my life. I’ve been singing in church all of my life. As for as the industry, I moved to Chicago from East Saint Louis in 1999 and my brother Pastor Fred Wilson had a group who did a project in 2002. That is where I met Vashawn Mitchell. He did some writing on that particular project. A couple of years after that Vashawn was about to work on his project. A lot of people think that Vashawn Mitchell is a new artist but he’s been doing this for a long time. He actually called on me to do some background work for that particular project. You have to believe in your dreams. Donald was there and Vashawn had me to tag a little bit of the worship song “Lost in Your Presence.” It went well. A few days later Vashawn Mitchell called me and He saidDonald Lawrence had asked about me. He said Donald liked my voice. So Donald contacted me and asked me to do an engagement with him a couple of weeks after that. After I sang that day with him I shook his hand and he said I did a good job and he said I’m going to call you. Donald did call me during the time when he was hand picking to form what we now know Donald Lawrence and Company. And so the rest is history. I sung on the project “I Speak Life" with him and the project that followed and touring with him. I’m grateful because one thing led to another.
GC: Let me say Congratulation on your debut project” Worship Soul.” What made you decide to step out to become a solo artist?
